Building a DN80 flange from one sentence

One sentence, a 4-step plan, a finished flange in SOLIDWORKS with its mass checked against a hand calculation.

Flanges are a staple in every mechanical design office: a disc, a centre bore, a ring of bolt holes. Modeling one by hand is easy but takes a few minutes every time. The video below is a real recording: imCAD builds a DN80 flange from a single request.

The recording shows imCAD's Vietnamese interface; the app also has an English interface and the AI answers in the language you write in.

The request

Build a DN80 flange: outer diameter 200, 18 thick, 90 bore, 6 × 18 holes evenly spaced on a 160 PCD, C45 steel.

No need to specify the sketch plane or the order of commands. Dimensions are in mm.

A 4-step plan

Before touching the model, imCAD presents its plan:

  1. Create a new part.
  2. Sketch on the Top Plane: Ø200 outer circle, Ø90 bore, 6 × Ø18 holes evenly spaced on PCD 160.
  3. Extrude 18 mm along +Y.
  4. Assign C45 steel.

With the Plan approval level you review it and click Run plan; with Automatic, imCAD runs straight away. In the video, Automatic was on, so the plan ran immediately.

Result and how to check it

imCAD reads back the model it just built: volume 423,493 mm³, mass 3,324.4 g, bounding box 200 × 18 × 200 mm. You can check it yourself:

V = π/4 × 18 × (200² − 90² − 6 × 18²) = π/4 × 18 × 29,956 ≈ 423,494 mm³
m = 423,494 mm³ × 7.85 g/cm³ ≈ 3,324 g

Volume and mass match the hand calculation. imCAD does this after every build: it compares real measurements on the model with the dimensions you asked for.

Try it on your own parts

Adapt the request to the part you model most often, say a DN100 flange or a base plate with holes. See more examples on the Demo page.
